Plane wave method
DFT band structure
Copper has an electron configuration of 3d104s1. The 3d bands are filled and are those below -2 eV in the DFT calculation. The 4s electron half fills the next band (orange in the plane wave plot). The plane wave method models the dispersion reasonably well above the 3d bands.
