The  Project – LIGHT – HOUSE

Creating the maximum of space with minimal intervention.
Minimising the production time and effort.
No leftover material – NO WASTE.
We used the 40 sheets provided and no more and we leave nothing behind.
The pavilion is rainproof and ventilated.
The height of the construction and the minimized opening create a chimney effect for
ventilation. The shadow gaps provide further controlled ventilation. The air gap in
the sandwich panels insulates the space.
40 sheets of polypropylene where made into:
– 23 sandwich panels for the walls and 1 for the door
– 4 panels for the roof and 1 for the roof light
– an inner space of 25 cubic meters was created
Throughout the development and construction stage we collected leftovers
from our fellow students. Together all nations and culture leave a trace and create
the base on which our pavilion stands.
The pavilion can be dismantled and rebuild again in another place. It can be
converted into exhibition walls or partition walls for offices and
studio spaces. The pavilion could be used as housing, as shown in the diagrams.
During the day the translucent material acts as a protection from the direct sunlight
and diffuses the light into the space revealing drawings with
messages that symbolize the community.
Drawings and symbols are used as a means of communication beyond language
barriers and cultural differences.
During the night our pavilion acts as lantern lighting up the new square created
by us all – our own micro community of architecture students from all around the
world.
Any activity that requires more than two people can be seen as a micro community.
Our pavilion is designed with only two modules. Our pavilion has a minimized structure and can only stand when all the parts are connected.
