The Constructing 2 Seminar is composed of two partial exercises, in which different structural framing methods are used. In the first part students design a building using timber-frame-construction, in which the application of wood as building material and its peculiarities in design and structure as well as in building physics are in focus. In the second part students deal with a structurally challenging steel-frame-structure which also takes a real building site and its environmental influences into consideration. Aspects of this seminar find its technological support in the lecture Construction 2 and students get, as far as required and possible, support for building their physical models of their design.
In this course students learn to apply knowledge of timber and steel frame constructions and its particularities. They have acquired competences in the use of different materials, construction methods, their formal characteristics and architectural potentials.
