Field trip 2023: Milan
For this year’s Form and Design field trip, the KOEN Institute visited Milan with 185 students. For five days, the Italian city with its architecture, paths, squares and special atmosphere was intensively explored, sketched, and experienced by the students. The excursion week started with a tour of the vibrant Navigli district, followed by a visit to the historic centre of Milan on the afternoon of the first day. On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the outstanding buildings of Bocconi University and then visited the contemporary Porta Nuova district. The third day’s tour took us through the eastern part of Milan with an exciting event at Politecnico di Milano’s Faculty of Architecture, where our students had the opportunity to discuss Milan’s identity with the Italian teaching staff based on their own sketches. A full-day excursion to Lake Como on Thursday focused on rationalist architecture, and the fifth day offered a flexible programme with a visit to a museum of one’s own choice.
For the warm welcome and the exciting exchange at the Politecnico di Milano, we thank Professor Pierre-Alain Croset.
